This silky night serum for retinal regulars contains the strongest concentration of vitamin A to come out of the Crystal collection to date (that's a potent 2.0% retinaldehyde for all the skingredient buffs out there). Step 1: After cleansing in the evening, apply two pumps of Crystal Retinal to the face and neck. Allow to absorb then follow with a moisturiser. Medik8 recommend Advanced Night Restore (sold separately) which is specifically designed to be used after vitamin A.
Step 2: For new users of Crystal Retinal, phase application in gradually. Use twice a week for the first two weeks, every other night for the next two weeks, then every night. You should always use a sunscreen the next morning after using vitamin A. Medik8 recommend using at least one tube of your current Crystal Retinal strength before moving up the ladder to the next strength.

My go-to retinol
I buy it for autumn/winter season. My skin is accostumated to this strength already. I use it at night and I like the texture: lightweight and easy to absorb. I like my skin after using it: smooth and hydrated.

Disappointing results and significant texture incompatibility
I have used the Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20 several times, pairing it with the matching eye cream. Unfortunately, my experience has been underwhelming. Every time I apply a facial oil over the retinal, it causes 'pilling', creating soft, lumpy clumps all over my face. This suggests that the formula does not absorb well or reacts poorly with oil-based products. Plus, despite consistent use at this high strength, I haven't noticed any significant reduction in wrinkles, improvement in skin tone, or fading of my sunspots. For a product at this level, I expected much better performance and absorption

Best retinal product
I have been using Crystal Retinal for years. I’ve tried all strenghts and I find this one perfect for my mature skin. No irritation (unlike tretinoin), it does not trigger my perioral dermatitis and it's really hydrating. My skin loves it and it will remain in my routine for ever. I am loving all Medik8 products.

Worked my way up to 20. I found the transition from 3-10 easy with no problems, used 20 nightly at 1st as I was feeling cocky but my skin soon broke out & my barrier was damaged. Back to every other night & working good. Only negative is that it stains my pillows & doesn't layer as well as strengths 3 & 10.

Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20 is one of the strongest over-the-counter retinal products available and delivers very fast visible changes in texture, clarity and fine lines. It is highly effective but also very unforgiving: dryness, peeling and barrier stress are common if your skin is not fully adapted. Best used only by experienced retinoid users with a slow, controlled build up. Texture is elegant and absorbs well, but the strength puts it firmly in the “advanced treatment” category, not daily cosmetic skincare. Short verdict: extremely effective, but only for skin that already knows what it’s doing.

Improved my skin
A repurchase. I’ve used up a tube of this before. At first, I wondered if it actually did anything. After a few weeks, I noticed my skin looked brighter, and I think this product contributed to that. I started using it every other day, but quickly switched to daily use. I haven’t experienced any irritation, but that’s rare for me. So try it out with caution. The color is a bit off-putting, though. It looks very orange and doesn’t go well with snow-white pillowcases.
