HOW TO REMOVE EYEBROW TINT

If we said Cara Delevingne, Emilia Clarke and Lily Collins, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? Eyebrows, right?

If your own aren’t up to big, bold standards, chances are you’ve tried an eyebrow tint... and it hasn’t worked out.

Whether you’ve had them professionally tinted or tried to do them yourself at home, we’re here to teach you how to remove eyebrow tint effectively, so you can quickly tone down the darkness or start all over again.

BUT FIRST, WHAT IS AN EYEBROW TINT

Simplifying your make up routine, eyebrow tinting is a cosmetics procedure where semi-permanent colour is used on your brow hairs. Enhancing your natural arches by making them look fuller, thicker and more defined, an eyebrow tint also stains the skin beneath the hairs providing even more of an illusion of fullness. Ideal for those of us who want a speedier make up routine, eyebrow tints usually last up to four weeks and require just a simple brush through in the morning.

But, what do you do if you’ve overdone the development time and your brows look a little *too* defined... Fear not as we’re here to teach you how to remove eyebrow tint.

Toners, shampoos and even toothpastes at the ready...

HOW TO REMOVE EYEBROW TINT

 Use A Clarifying Shampoo

Working by stripping hair of excess oil and product, clarifying shampoos are the ideal solution to how to remove eyebrow tint. Formulated with more surfactants than a typical shampoo, these hair soaps work by breaking down the pigments in eyebrow dye and lifting the colour as you lather. We suggest using a flannel to really work the shampoo into your brows, leaving it on for five minutes before gently rinsing it with warm water.

Try An Oil Or Silicone-based Cleanser

Effortlessly breaking down pigments while also nourishing the skin above and below your brows, an oil or silicone-based cleanser quickly gets to work lightening your brow mistakes. Using a cotton pad, gently swipe across your face framers until you’re happy with the colour fade

Use A Face Toner

Powered by astringent ingredients like witch hazel and alcohol, face toners are a quick and effective way of fading eyebrow tints. Effortlessly breaking down the dying agents on your eyebrow hairs and working to exfoliate the skin beneath your brows, face toners not only remove the pigment *on* your brow hairs, but also gently lift away the colour stain on your skin. We suggest using this method to fade eyebrow tint and not how to remove eyebrow tint immediately.

Try Toothpaste

Want to learn how to remove eyebrow tint immediately? Dab on your favourite minty toothpaste. Slightly more abrasive than the other methods, using a toothpaste is a super effective way of removing eyebrow tint. Because most toothpastes have both cleansing and abrasive agents like baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, they work well at effectively lifting your unwanted tint. However, as you also need a scrubbing action when working the paste in, it’s important to look after the skin around the eyebrows after this application.

EYEBROW TINT FAQs

How long does eyebrow tint take to fade?

Typically, eyebrow tints fade within four to six weeks of application. Of course this will depend on your skin type, hair type and the way you look after your eyebrows. Coarse thick eyebrows latch onto the pigment better than sparse – so those with thinner arches usually only maintain a tinted look for two to three weeks.

Does eyebrow tinting fade after the first day?

Yes — if you don’t follow the rules of after care. Once your brows have been tinted, it’s important to keep them away from water and heat for at least the first 24 hours. This is so the dye develops correctly, and your brows don’t start to fade quickly. However, if you’re unhappy with the colour and want to remove the tint, then we suggest using this to your advantage and trying the different methods we’ve outlined above as soon as possible.

Can you wash off tinted eyebrows?

No, as it is a semi-permanent dye that is used and so just washing the brows won’t remove the colour. However, you can remove the dye or fade the pigment by using the methods we’ve explained above.

And there you have it – everything you need to know about how to remove eyebrow tint, effortlessly and easily. Brows that are too bold and too dark are now yesterday's problem...
