The Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner is one of three core hair heroes from The Ordinary, each formulated with the same ingredients-first, results-driven ethos that made their affordable skin care essentials so beloved by Team Cult Beauty (and the rest of the beauty industry too!). Think: less fluff, less filler, more of what your hair and scalp actually need. Behentrimonium chloride might not be something you’re all too familiar with (yet!), but in true The Ordinary form, the brand has narrowed in on one of the hardest working in hair and made it the star of this ultra-effective formula — while ditching the unnecessary ingredients other brands typically use to bulk out formulas, but that can actually just leave hair feeling limp and weighed down.
With a minimalistic-yet-effective formula, the Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner will help to condition, soften and detangle hair without unnecessary, filler ingredients.
The star ingredient here — as the name may suggest — is behentrimonium chloride. Though you might not have heard about this ingredient much, it’s likely on the INCI list of some of your favourite conditioners, and The Ordinary have tailored this lightweight formula to hero it at a 2% concentration (a low potency that still allows for the full efficacy of the ingredient). This helps to condition your mane (yes, even if its colour treated!) while adding plenty of slip and helping to detangle strands. In turn, this makes brushing or combing through your hair a whole lot easier, leading to less damage and stress in the long run.
Work the conditioner into wet hair. Rinse. If irritation occurs, rinse off, cease use, and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised. Keep out of reach of children.
Aqua (Water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Phytic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Best no-frills conditioner
This is my new favorite conditioner: I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis and any conditioner/mask I used would make the situation worse, even if I did not apply them on my scalp. This one has no smell, detangles hair immediately (which can be tricky after the drying shampoos I have to use for my scalp), is super-gentle and leaves hair extremely smooth even after leaving it on for 2 minutes. I tried so many conditioners that did not perform half as well and had double the list of ingredients. Definitely stocking up on this!
Report this reviewDried out my hair
Had really high hopes for this as i love most of the ordinary products however this one left my hair dry and brittle. Would not recommend if you have fine/thin hair
Report this reviewOK
This was ok, I wanted to love it but I didnt. My hair wasnt that soft, I would liken it to a store bought product like L'Oreal elvive
Report this reviewBetter than the cleanser
This is a good conditioner; nothing out of the ordinary (pun intended ;-b) but does what it promises.
Report this reviewZe best
I normally wouldn’t do a review but this one just makes my hair so soft and silky and not greasy for few days after shower day. Must buy girls.ÂÂ
Report this reviewBest conditioner I've ever used
So, I have very fine, thin hair which means by and large I don't like classic in-shower conditioners normally as they weigh my hair down. This conditioner works immediately in making your hair feel smooth and deranged. It's honestly amazing and doesn't weigh my hair down.I only removed a mark because the packaging is really not great. I like the look of it but its hard to squeeze product out while in the shower because the plastic is too hard and the squarenessand slimness of the bottle means it's a chore to squeeze out.The product itself is lovely though
Report this reviewFirst time use review.
Personal facts: I am 53 and have no artificial colour in my hair. Greys have started to show (in highlights around my forehead and underneath). My hair colour is auburn/copper red and the texture is curly/wavy/frizzy and extremely thick. Chest length.Issues: frizz, itchy & greasy scalp, dry ends, no defined curls (without using an endless of products weighing the hair down, giving me an even itchier scalp).Review: I used The Ordinary Cleanser (shampoo) beforehand as I wanted to try them together. This conditioner isn't as thick as other conditioners I've used and so I was very sceptical when I poured it into my hand but I needn't have worried. It dispensed beautifully into all of my hair (concentrating on my lengths). I could almost hear my dry, frizzy ends drinking it up and felt immediate 'relief'.After rinsing it out, it kept my hair feeling soft and weightless (the cleaner made my hair feel the same). After removing my towel, I hardly had to use a comb (I use one for African textured hair) as it still felt incredibly detangled after the rinse. I decided to not put any further product into my hair (I normally follow with a curl balm and a curl enhancer in order to define my curls but I wanted to see what the condition of my hair would be without these products in order to give this product a fair review. Normally, as my hair dries without any curl enhancers, it will frizz the minute it starts to dry but this left my hair feeling soft, weightless and incredibly clean (without feeling dried out or weighing it down). There is definitely some curl definition and not at all as frizzy as it normally is. This is a massive improvement and one I haven't seen in any other conditioner (OR shampoo). (I've also left a review for the cleanser/shampoo). By leaving my age and details of my hair texture and colour, I am hoping that it'll help future buyers. Of course, everything is personal and because it works for me, doesn't mean it'll work for someone else. BUT this is, by a very long mile, so much better than anything I've tried for my hair needs. I will obviously have to wait and see if it makes my scalp itch (I've not tried the hair oil yet but I might buy it to try out on my next order) and what it does to my dry ends and greasy scalp. So far, it feels good though and I would normally have started itching my scalp after half an hour of using a new conditioner. I would LOVE bigger bottles of this but I believe The Ordinary people are very good at listening to their customers, so I am sure this will happen eventually.
