Apply a pea-sized amount after cleansing, toning and exfoliating, and then follow with your serum and/or nighttime moisturiser. Avoid the lips, direct contact with the eye, and corners of the eyes. You may apply up to the orbital bone of the eye area. When first using the Clinical 1% Retinol, start with no more than three evenings per week, then gradually increase frequency to every other night and, finally, every evening as tolerated.

One of my routine staples - cant live without it! I usually use retinol half of the year every night, as I have routinely used it for many years and it doesnt irritate my skin. Great results and easy to use. HOWEVER for anyone who hasnt used retinol products before, I recommend starting slow and steady, even once or twice a week, and building up from there. This might be one of the strongest retinol products out there, so have a look at other Paulas Choise products before diving in with this one :) A+++

Felt that it is too strong
Already using retinol for some time and felt that I have prepared my skin for this, but I was wrong. This is still too strong for me and I wouldn't consider that my skin is sensitive. You really have to build up your skin for this.

Too irritating for my sensitive skin
I had a small sample form this and I thought it was good. I ordered the full size before finishing the sample and by the time I finished dit I realised it was irritating my skin. Now I have a full size product I cannot use. Perhaps 1% is too strong for me.

I love it!
I started using this every second night in my skincare routine over the past month and it has helped my acne (in combination with their SA solution) as well as the fine lines on my ski . I have to add that I definitely noticed increased skin irritation, which is normal for using retinols but means that I now can't use AHAs on my face, so be aware to be gentler on your skin. Don't worry thought - you won't need that extra exfoliation if you use this product :)

Excellent!
I've tried quite a few retinols on their market, including one of the higher strengths Medik8 and I keep coming back to this Paula's Choice one because it simply does the best job. Visible results, excellent improvement of skin texture and fine lines. It does take a while to get used to it because it's quite harsh in the beginning but the results are so worth it.
