Beauty Banks and the power of beauty for good

Those of you lucky enough to secure this year’s coveted Cult Beauty Advent Calendar (start saving for next year’s!) have massively helped our phenomenal charity partner: Beauty Banks. We donated £15/€17 from the sale of each calendar, to help them conduct their incredible work and provide precious hygiene essentials to those without means to afford things so many of us take for granted – from tampons to toothpaste and shampoo to shower gel.

In a year that’s been tougher than most (understatement) with people deprived of their income in light of the Covid pandemic, more homes than ever rely on support and we’re proud and delighted to help {Beauty Banks} offer valuable products to those who’re enduring especially difficult times.

The money we raised through the calendar goes towards helping Beauty Banks to pay for products they donate, as well as storage, petrol, van hire and sustenance for volunteers who work to get the goods to where they’re needed. From the funds we donated they hope to provide over 200(!!) mixed boxes of toiletries to charities throughout the country – from Southampton to Aberdeen – during the run up to Christmas, as well as to schedule deliveries over the course of the year to c. 130 charities in England, Scotland and Wales.

An average weekly delivery to a charity is worth around £500 and contains items such as shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hand sanitiser, shaving products, cleanser and sanitary products and while charity sizes (and donations) vary according to need, Beauty Banks typically cater to 150 people per charity, giving them access to products they need for the month.

The impact is huge. So often taken for granted, cleanliness is crucial and as well as being integral to health and wellness, it also has mental and emotional implications – when we’re clean we feel confident, better equipped to approach other people and able to go for that pivotal job interview – in other words, Beauty Banks’ work can be life changing!

“We are blown away to have collaborated with Cult Beauty on their now iconic Advent Calendar. It’s an exciting and meaningful partnership between Beauty Banks and Cult Beauty, forged after much discussion around our shared values and desire to harness the power of beauty for good.” – Sali Hughes, Co-founder of Beauty Banks
