Six years ago this week, Alexia Inge and Jessica DeLuca announced the birth of their baby Cult Beauty (which sort of is their baby) – a beauty industry first in so many ways. Pioneering an expert-edited approach to selling beauty, Cult Beauty gives customers access to product recommendations and know-how usually only available to the A-list elite. They introduced the concept of ONLY selling the hero products from ranges, so that you can shop, safe in the knowledge that everything on this site is stand-alone fantastic.
Rather than regurgitating marketing spiel, Cult Beauty was the first website to list full ingredients for EVERY product, and to have a beauty expert write up each description based on knowledge and extensive research into what the formulation does, so that you can make informed, intelligent and confident choices. Cult Beauty is intelligent beauty!
Through the eyes and ears of our expert panel, as well as the trend-spotting talents of Cult Beauty’s bloodhounds, we have discovered and launched some of the coolest products to hit these shores this decade – Anastasia Beverly Hills, Jouer Cosmetics, Sunday Riley and RMS Beauty – are just some of the fabulous, myriad brands we’ve introduced to the UK beauty market. So, three cheers to Lex and Jess for producing such wonderful offspring – we’re all exceedingly proud.
And if you (like us) are always on the lookout for a future cult classic, here are some fantastic brands you really need to know about…
{May Lindstrom Skin Care} – is beautifully packaged and properly natural (Epicurean even). Made in small batches using the finest ingredients – Blue Tansy, Avocado Oil, Sweet Sage, Sea Buckthorn, Cayenne Pepper and Raw Honey – it’s no wonder skin drinks this stuff up. The Honey Mud Cleansing Silk is good enough to eat.
{Mizon} – is our latest skin care launch from South Korea, starring weird and wonderful ingredients such as egg white, snail slime and starfish extract. Renowned for being streets ahead of their western counterparts when it comes to beauty product development, where South Korea leads, the rest of the world (eventually) follows.
{Lea Journo Hair Care} – stars French Plum oil – effectively Argan 2.0. Lea is a French hair stylist who re-located to the West Coast due to ever-growing demand from LA’s A-list clients (ever-immaculate Natalie Portman’s a fan), and now with her range of ecologically housed cleansers, conditioners and styling potions, you too can get the glossy locks you always dreamed of.
{Tela Hair Organics} – an underground NY all-natural hair care brand, this range was recommended to us by our expert (and New York’s most sought-after colourist) James Corbett. The ingredient lists must be seen to be believed – brimming with potent botanical extracts, this takes a little while to work but when it does, the results are phenomenal.
{Su-Man Skincare} – Su-Man redefined the art of the facial, and celebrities and beauty editors flock to her (or take her with them, Juliette Binoche), to experience her world-famous ‘facelift in an hour’. Her Velvet Skin Brightening Serum is fast becoming the stuff of skin care legend – just ask any industry insider and you’ll get a knowing smile.
