The Ultimate Make-Up Bag

If your make-up bag is bulging with crusty, dusty products that are so old they’re back in fashion, it’s time to purge. Tip any past-their-sell-by-date products in the bin and let our experts help you lighten the load with their favourite multi-tasking cosmetics (plus a couple of super tools for perfect application.)

De Mamiel Winter Facial Oil, £59

James Corbett says, “I am adoring my De Mamiel facial oil. Not only is it super moisturizing to give skin the perfect, hydrated, supple glow but it allows the make up to go on better if the skin does not peel and crack. It will also heal you from the inside because it is aligned with what the body needs for each season. Don’t be afraid of oil it is the best hydrator!”

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation, £32

“I am Anglo Saxon/Celtic and have pale, almost transparent skin which shows blotches, blemishes and dark circles very RED-ily, so need coverage. It doesn’t sink into the lines around my eyes and mouth and generally illuminates my complexion to a very satisfying, flattering level. Can’t live without it now.” Sugar & Spice, London

3 Custom Crème Concealer Trio, £42

Emma Day says, “This is a fantastic creamy but long lasting-concealer I would put under my eyes, around the nose and over any blemishes. I do not leave the house without concealer to even my skin up and cover any nasties and this is a great one with three colours you can use throughout the year as your skin colour changes. On models, if they have great skin I only use concealer in this way after I have prepped the skin.

3 Custom Color Lip and Cheek Stain, £15

Emma Day says, “This gives the most amazing long-lasting natural flush on cheeks and a pretty stain on the lips – it looks scary in the pot but is incredibly fresh and natural-looking on. You can just dab it straight on with your fingers and build up the colour how you want.”

RMS Living Luminizer, £30

“For the icing on your glowing, fresh faced look try RMS Living Luminizer. It highlights the cheekbones and gives you that natural supermodel look. This product is so versatile you can frost out your lips, or highlight your brow bone too.” James Corbett

Peter Thomas Roth Mascara To Die For, £18

“I have quite long but very rebellious lashes, I find that with other mascaras I can’t get them in place or curly enough. This mascara works wonderfully; the brush is very thin but somehow gets all the lashes in place and gives them a beautiful curl. I’ve never been so satisfied with a mascara, love it!” Sara MB

3 Custom Color Black Eye Pencil, £10

“This liner is extremely soft and goes on easily with a really solid, strong pigment, and it smudges well too. This does mean that the pencil is used up more quickly than most I have tried but at a tenner this is not a major issue. Just be warned you need a very sharp pencil sharpener to get a good edge.” Patricia C, London

Julie Hewett Noir Collection in Femme, £18

The packaging for this is lovely, you look very different pulling this beauty out of your bag and people are always asking me what this one is. The main reason I like this lippy so much is that it has found the perfect compromise between staying put and not being too drying. The reds in this range are absolutely perfect, and they stay. I use an invisible lip liner from lipstick queen around the outside of my lips first because these are seriously pigmented and do bleed up my mouth lines otherwise. So happy I took a punt on this unknown brand.” Hennie
