I’m a Barbie girl…

This was one of the best London Fashion Week’s there’s been in a long time, thanks in no small part to all the supercool new people we met while out and about at the shows and presentations – the lovely Cate from BitchBuzz, MademoiselleRobot‘s Laetitia and of course LibertyLondonGirl. But there was a very positive and optimistic vibe on the catwalks too – incredibly wearable, beautiful clothes which suggested that London’s reputation as the enfant terrible of the four main fashion weeks is slightly out of date. The creativity and excitement’s still there, it’s just grown up a bit and thank goodness for that.

And to go with the clothes, we also had some really lovely hair and make-up which (gasp) actually looked like you could try it yourself and not look like a clown/mime artist/lady of the night. At several shows, hair looked soft, natural and, most importantly, clean. This can’t have been because they were dunking all the models’ heads in sinks backstage, so we can only assume that some skilful application of dry shampoo was being used. (In fact, we don’t need to assume – we know, because we saw the Charles Worthington team using their Front Row Refresh and Revive dry shampoo backstage at Erdem!)

While there were romantic plaits snaking round the models’ crowns at Erdem, at Romeo Pires they sported chic side buns (very Bianca Jagger at Studio 54) while at Spijkers en Spijkers they had beautifully soft, bouncy waves. This show was actually my favourite for hair and beauty – with Barbie as the inspiration, the models sported natural, glowing skin with a juicy bubblegum pink lip – fresh, spring like and very, very pretty. phoebe frangoul
